Nile Tech Sdn Bhd has not been granted access to the database of the road transport department’s MyJPJ app, and no user profile information is automatically sent to the company through the app’s insurance renewal link, the transport ministry says.

In a written parliamentary reply, the ministry said the insurance renewal service in MyJPJ only acts as a link that directs users to the Nile Tech portal, where all insurance renewal processes and transactions take place.

Any information users choose to enter on the Nile Tech portal is subject to the portal’s own terms, conditions and privacy policy, it said.

The ministry was responding to a question from Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh (PN-Besut) on the measures in place to ensure that users’ personal data is not accessed by third parties.

It said Nile Tech was appointed as a platform provider to give MyJPJ users another channel to renew their vehicle insurance online and reduce the need to visit counters. The appointment followed a process set by the ministry and JPJ, the company was not given exclusive rights, and the arrangement costs the government nothing, it added.
