YTL Corporation Bhd has committed £5 million (RM27.2 million) to set up the YTL Malaysian Scholarship Programme at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), which will support Malaysian students over the next 20 years.

The company said the first cohort of scholars joined LSE in September, made up of nine undergraduate and postgraduate students from nine departments.

Executive chairman Francis Yeoh, who facilitated the commitment, said investing in capable and passionate students would help build a Malaysia whose progress is guided by wisdom and whose prosperity is shared.

He said that at a time when outstanding leaders were increasingly scarce, education must cultivate character alongside intellect.

YTL said the partnership builds on LSE’s links with Malaysia, with more than 250 Malaysian students at the school in the 2025-26 academic year. LSE president and vice-chancellor Larry Kramer said empowering future generations to create, innovate and lead offered the best path to a better world.

The company said the Yeoh family had supported scholarships for hundreds of Malaysian students over the past 30 years.
