United States President Donald Trump will attend the 49th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Manila next month, the office of Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has confirmed.

Palace press officer Claire Castro confirmed Trump’s attendance at a news briefing on 14 October but did not give details of his itinerary. The summits will be held from 16 to 18 November at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City, Metro Manila.

The Philippines chairs ASEAN this year, taking over from Malaysia, which chaired the grouping in 2025. Philippine officials expect the leaders of the other ASEAN member states to attend, along with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres. Leaders of ASEAN Plus Three and East Asia Summit partners are also expected, although official notification was still pending, according to reports.

Reports citing the White House say Trump is due in Manila on 16 November before travelling to Shenzhen, China, for the APEC summit. A White House official said the trip is meant to show US commitment to allies in Southeast Asia and to advance economic and national security goals.

The visit is expected to be watched closely for signals on US trade and security policy in the region, including the South China Sea. Marcos has declared 16 to 18 November special non-working days in the National Capital Region.
