Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) director-general Shuhaily Zain has yet to receive an official letter on his transfer back to the police force, according to his lawyer, Rafique Rashid Ali.
Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said last week that the ministry had decided to end Shuhaily’s secondment to AKPS and return him to the police. Shuhaily, a former director of Bukit Aman’s criminal investigation department, was seconded to the agency as its director-general on July 1 last year.
Rafique said that without a letter from the ministry confirming the transfer, Shuhaily remains authorised to carry out his duties. Shuhaily returned to work on Monday and chaired a meeting of AKPS commanders, after being reported to be on leave the previous week.
The lawyer urged Saifuddin to clarify the matter, saying the minister’s announcement had sparked speculation.
Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail has said that Shuhaily’s two-year term at AKPS can only be cut short with the consent of the King.
On Oct 21, Shuhaily pleaded not guilty in the Sepang magistrates’ court to a charge of assaulting two policemen at KLIA in September. Rafique said he has not been found guilty of any offence.
