Sarawak police will deploy 7,469 officers and personnel to keep order during the 13th state election, acting state police commissioner DCP Saifullizan Ishak said on 28 October.
Speaking at a press conference at the state police headquarters in Kuching, he said the contingent is 889 personnel short and has formally asked Bukit Aman for reinforcements from other contingents, with Sabah among those likely to help.
He said preparations, including manpower and logistics arrangements, are under way to ensure security and public order throughout the election.
The state assembly was dissolved on 26 October. The Election Commission will hold a special meeting on 6 November to fix the nomination and polling dates, and the election must be held within 60 days of dissolution.
