The Election Commission (EC) will hold a special meeting in Kuching on 6 November to decide the key dates for the 13th Sarawak state election, EC secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus said in a statement on 27 October.
The meeting, to be chaired by EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun, will decide on the issue of the election writ, nomination day, polling day, the electoral roll to be used and other preparations. A press conference will be held once the meeting ends.
The commission received formal notice of the dissolution on 27 October from Sarawak Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar. The assembly was dissolved on 26 October, and the election must be held within 60 days under Article 21(4) of the state constitution.
Applications for postal voting opened on 26 October for all categories. Category 1A covers police and military personnel, election workers, EC members and officers and media personnel, category 1B covers Malaysians living overseas, and category 1C covers agencies and organisations.
Applications must be made online through the EC’s MySPR portal. The closing date will be announced later.
The election will be contested on the existing 82 state seats.
