Pakatan Harapan (PH) has named 21 candidates for the Melaka state election on 14 November, announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is PH chairman, at the launch of the coalition’s election machinery at the Hang Jebat Stadium grounds on 25 October.
Also present were DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, PKR vice-president and PH election director Amirudin Shari, and Melaka PH chairman Adly Zahari.
Anwar urged voters to reject politics of hatred based on race and religion, and said the government should be judged on everyday issues such as the cost of living, jobs, education, healthcare and basic amenities. He said the campaign should be used to explain policies and plans, not to insult opponents.
Barisan Nasional (BN), led in the state by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, will announce its candidates on 28 October. Perikatan Nasional (PN) will contest under its own logo and plans to name its candidates on 29 October.
The Election Commission has fixed nomination for 31 October, early voting for 10 November and polling for 14 November. The state assembly was dissolved on 23 September.
At the 2021 state election, BN won 21 of the 28 seats to form the state government, PH won five and PN two.
