Who we are

Malaysia Brief brings together the day’s news from Malaysia and the region with clear explanations of the law behind it. The site is also home to the archive of Just Ask Law 问LAW就好, a Mandarin legal podcast produced in cooperation with Astro SYOK, in which each episode answers a real question sent in by a listener. Every episode is in the Podcast section.

The site grew out of a simple observation: the law in Malaysia changes often, and most people only hear about a change when it is already affecting them. Alongside the news, Malaysia Brief publishes law updates and explainers, so that readers can follow new legislation, court decisions and practical developments as they happen rather than months later.

What we cover

We cover the news that matters to readers in Malaysia: national affairs, business and the economy, world news and lifestyle. Our law coverage reports new Acts, amendments, gazetted regulations, government announcements and significant judgments as they happen, with plain-language summaries of court decisions and explainers across employment and industrial relations, family law, company law and shareholder disputes, civil and commercial litigation, and construction disputes including CIPAA payment claims.

Editorial policy

Legal articles on Malaysia Brief are written or reviewed by practising lawyers. The public is welcome to contribute: lawyers, HR practitioners, business owners, academics and students can send articles through our submission page. Every submission goes to the editors first. Nothing is published automatically. The editors read each article, verify the legislation and cases it relies on, and may edit it for clarity, length and accuracy before it is published under the contributor’s name. Contributors keep the copyright in their work and grant us a non-exclusive licence to publish it.

When the law changes after an article is published, we update or annotate the article and note the date of the change. If you spot an error, tell us through the contact page and we will look into it.

Important. Legal articles on Malaysia Brief are general information on Malaysian law and are not legal advice. Reading this site, or submitting an article or a question, does not create a lawyer-client relationship. The law changes and every case turns on its own facts, so please consult a lawyer about your own situation before acting.
