Hong Kong customs officers have arrested another man arriving from Malaysia on suspicion of trafficking about 1kg of cocaine hidden inside his shoes.
The customs department said the 36-year-old man arrived at Hong Kong International Airport from Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday. “During customs clearance, officers found packets of suspected cocaine in the shoes worn by him. He was arrested. The investigation is ongoing,” it said.
The drugs were worth about HK$600,000 (RM311,000). Under Hong Kong’s Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, those convicted of drug trafficking face life imprisonment and a fine of up to HK$5 million (about RM2.59 million).
Hong Kong customs recently arrested a Chinese national who flew in from Kuala Lumpur with 1kg of cocaine inside his shoes, while two other passengers arriving from Kuala Lumpur were arrested in July after officers also found cocaine in their shoes.
