The Dewan Rakyat on Thursday approved the 2027 Supply Bill at the policy stage by a majority voice vote, clearing the first major hurdle for next year’s budget.
The vote was taken after Finance Minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan wrapped up the government’s reply to the debate.
The bill now goes to the committee stage, where MPs will examine the proposed allocations ministry by ministry. Under the Dewan Rakyat’s published schedule, that stage begins on Monday and runs until Nov 26.
Once the committee stage is over, the bill must still clear its third reading before it is passed by the lower house.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim tabled the budget on Oct 9. It proposes RM459.8 billion in federal spending, made up of RM376.8 billion in operating expenditure and RM83 billion in development expenditure.
